cGMP/PKG signaling in vascular smooth muscle

Wolfgang earned his M.D. from the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Technical University of Munich and his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Bremen, 1987. Wolfgang joined the UVM faculty in 1998 and is an Associate Professor in Pharmacology.

Research Interests

Cardiovascular Biology & Disease
Structural Biology & Protein Function
Signal Transduction & Cell Signaling

As a faculty member of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Vermont, my research has continued to develop methods and tools that allow us to study the cGMP-PKG pathway in vitro and in vivo in unprecedented detail. Particularly our successes in developing fluorescence based cGMP-indicators and highly specific PKG inhibitors have allowed me to combine all aspects of my academic training.
Although my research interests are highly focused, my research projects have been and will continue to be stimulated and integrated through the use of a large variety of methods and techniques ranging from organic chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, biophysics and pharmacology.
