UVM Internet Service Availability Monitor

Project Definition

Name

UVM Internet Service Availability Monitor

Project Description

This project is to determine the feasibility and cost of providing an externally sourced measurement and monitoring of key UVM Internet Services. The goals of this project are:

  1. to get early warning when key UVM Internet Services start to become less available to our external users
  2. to provide a publicly available performance trend chart

Statement of the Problem to be Solved

We have recently suffered a failure over a holiday weekend that caused all traffic between UVM and the Internet to be terribly slow. Such problems lasting an entire weekend before we find out about them is unacceptable.

Sponsor

Computing and Information Technology (CIT)

Costs (one-time)

Time of people doing the research, the cost of the chosen solution.

Costs (on-going)

Time of people maintaining the chosen solution, yearly licensing/maintenance fees.

Benefits
