Usage/Installations notes for the Bluezone SSL product

Usage/Installations notes for the Bluezone SSL product.

UVM has purchased “concurrent use” licenses for a  TN3270/FTP SSL emulator from Renex Corporation.  This product will be used for all remote access to UVMVM and will eventually replace the WIN/NET3270 product for local access.   The Bluezone product is superior in many ways to the no longer supported and often problematic WIN/NET3270 product.

The Bluezone client software on your desktop communicates with a server over a SSL secure connection.  The clients are pre-configured to communicate with UVMVM through a Renex SSL server on a machine called “mandrill.uvm.edu”.  If you have questions or problems with setting up the product contact Sharon Provost or John St. Louis in ETS for assistance.

To install the Bluezone product:

  • Save the uvm.bluezone.exe file to a temporary directory on your system.
  • Run the uvm.bluezone.exe file from that directory.
  • Several screens will be displayed. Click on the “NEXT” icon to accept the default.
  • A blue and yellow “UVMVM Display” ICON will be placed on your desktop for TN3270 access to UVMVM

The TN3270 and FTP clients are pre-configured for the majority of your needs.  You will need to update the configuration to print to a “Windows printer” though.  It’s quite easy:

  • From the “File” pull down menu select “print setup”.
  • Select “page setup / printer selection”.  If you have a default printer you will be prompted to make that your current selection.
