  • Tom Ference:
    Tom Ference of Vermont Patent Agent, LLC is a registered patent agent with the USPTO. He has over 15 years of experience as an engineer, entrepreneur and someone who has taken several products from the idea stage to a commercial product. He is also president of InventVermont a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports inventors and entrepreneurs in commercializing their ideas. Tom can help you decide if a patent is the best protection for your idea and then guide you through the process of obtaining a patent. He works primarily with independent inventors and small companies to protect their intellectual property.

  • John Bourland:
    John Bourland (UVM '73 and '75) is Senior Managing Associate for New England Financial Vermont. He has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry and holds the titles of Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC). He is also a Board member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals (N.E. Chapter) as well as the National Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors (VT chapter).
  • Steve Densham:
    Steve Densham is the Area Business Advisor for VtSBDC, covering Chittenden and Franklin counties. VtSBDC is an organization with experienced business professionals committed to assisting you through no-cost confidential coaching, statewide training, strategic assessments, and speciality programs. VtSBDC's mission is to strengthen existing business entities and assist start-ups with high-quality, no-cost counseling and affordable training programs.

  • Michael Shuman:
    Michael Shuman is vice president for Enterprise Development for Training & Development Corporation. An economist, attorney, author, and entrepreneur, Shuman has authored, coauthored, or edited seven books, including The Small Mart Revolution: How Local Businesses Are Beating the Global Competition (Berrett-Koehler, 2006) and Going Local: Creating Self-Reliant Communities in the Global Age (Free Press, 1998). Shuman is helping to lead development of TDC's Worksphere Program, a national effort to support worker well-being through a variety of programs promoting "sustainable employability" and "global community capitalism." He received an A.B. with distinction in economics and international relations from Stanford University and a J.D. from Stanford Law School. Shuman has given an average of more than one invited talk per week for 25 years throughout the United States and the world.
