Many students have taken these as part of their undergraduate studies. Others take these before entering the program, either at UVM or at another institution.

- Yes
- How does CDAE evaluate candidates for their graduate program?
- We take into account the entire application, including recommendations, personal statement, achievement as an undergraduate, experience, and standardized test scores. While there are no minimums for undergraduate GPA nor GRE score, a student with at least a B average in college, who is in the top 25% of the GRE pool, and articulates a personal interest that fits the mission of CDAE will most likely be admitted. In many cases, an outstanding undergraduate career combined with experience can offset lower GRE scores. There is no "once size fits all" for selection into the program.
- Does CDAE offer graduate assistantships?
- CDAE has a limited number of graduate assistantships available on a competitive basis. The total number of assistantships vary each year and depend on college resources and the research competitiveness of the faculty. These can cover tuition, provide a stipend or both. Some assistantships are 100% research, while others combine research and teaching assistance. Students on a full assistantship are required to work 20 hours each week in return for tuition and a stipend.
