Laurel Valchuis grew up in Concord, MA and earned a BS in Biology from Trinity College in Hartford, CT. In 2007 she spent her summer in Tanzania working with subsistence farmers building vegetable gardens to help improve nutrition. Upon her return to Boston, Laurel joined HighQuest Partners, a consulting firm focused in agribusiness, where she worked as an analyst for three years. Laurel got the chance to apply her knowledge learned at HighQuest this past summer where she worked as a Volunteer Consultant for TechnoServe in Zambia. The focus of her work there was on strategizing and assessing avenues for improving the economic resilience and food security of smallholder farmers across Zambia. Laurel is particularly interested in how food systems will develop in Africa given increasing global demand for agricultural goods including livestock and poultry, given constrained natural resources with which to produce an adequate food supply.
