Kristin (Kris) graduated from Middlebury College with a degree in Film and Media Culture in 2008. Since then, she has put her communication and community building skills to work in Vermont’s nonprofit sector—first for the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps (VYCC) and then for the Rutland Area Farm and Food Link (RAFFL). Through her experiences with these organizations and her various travels, Kris has begun to form theories about what resilient, sustainable communities actually look like. At UVM she hopes to transform this vision into more concrete research findings to help move Vermont to a future that balances its innovative, entrepreneuring spirit with its agriculture heritage. When not at UVM, Kris lives with her partner Joe and their English pointer, Isaac, in a “quaint but not too quaint” 500 sq. ft. cabin in Brandon. In her free time she can be found hiking on the Long Trail, frequenting farmers’ markets, and/or attempting to cross country ski.
