Since finishing an Undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies at the University of Vermont in 2008, Debbie has been working and volunteering with several of Vermont’s excellent nonprofit organizations. She is an active family friend/community liaison with Vermont Refugee Resettlement (VRRP), a ski instructor and guide with Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, a former Tax-preparer with the VITA Program, and a bicycle mechanic with BikeRecycleVT. After serving in the City of Burlington’s AmeriCorps VISTA Program helping former refugees and low-income families access after-school programming through the Burlington School District, she led a team of 14 volunteers supporting area agencies in serving low income residents of Northern Vermont. Debbie worked with environmentalists and other community leaders from a variety of different backgrounds, places, and organizations in the summer of 2008, while cooking as a local foods chef through the Center for Whole Communities in Waitsfield. She has several years' experience working with Burlington Families through the Burlington Kids AfterSchool Program, and the Burlington Children’s Space nonprofit Preschool. Most recently, Debbie returned to Vermont from a Practicum with a Public Works Department in Melsungen, a small town in Central Germany and works with the Vermont nonprofit resource group Common Good Vermont. Debbie grew up in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania and the Rensselaer Plateau near Albany, New York.
