Following a musical score is vital for fully appreciating and exploring music, and one does not need to have a formal musical background in order to master this skill. In this course, students learn how to recognize and identify the sound qualities of instruments utilized in orchestral, jazz, and pop genres. Students also learn musical terms and details of basic music notation and study a variety of musical forms while listening to recordings and viewing scores. Attendance at several UVM concerts is required. As a TAP offering, this course is writing-intensive and some class meetings will be dedicated to advising concerns.
