In addition to our courses in language study, we offer a full array of classes on the literatures and cultures of the many regions of the world where the languages we teach are spoken, and on the form and meaning of human language itself.
The Department of Romance Languages and Linguistics houses UVM's programs in French, Italian, Spanish, and Linguistics.
We offer undergraduate majors and minors in French, Italian Studies, Linguistics, and Spanish as well as a separate minor in Italian and a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate.
Our instructors are poets and pedagogues as well as being literary, cultural, and linguistic scholars. Our faculty consists of 34 publicly recognized teachers and scholars who are highly knowledgeable, dedicated to their students, and active participants in the UVM community.
