A Cause Worth Believing In

This is a magical moment for the University of Vermont, the kind that comes along only once every fifty years or so if you’re lucky. Everything is aligned. Vermont has rallied around the University, and the community has developed a new passion for its flagship institution of higher learning. We have a core of outstanding teachers and students who are excited to be in Burlington. And President Daniel Mark Fogel demonstrated that strong leadership can guide an institution to new heights of accomplishment and ambition.

UVM wasn’t nearly so big or so vibrant when I attended it in the 1960s. Today’s students are more experienced, poised, and aware than my class was. The faculty is stronger, too. But it’s still a University that cares passionately about its students.

I’ve rarely run across someone who didn’t have an eye-opening or life-changing experience at UVM. Born and raised in Burlington, attending school from kindergarten to college with many of the same classmates, I was a pretty provincial kid. But the University, even though it was practically next door, introduced me to fresh ideas, to different kinds of students from throughout the United States, and to different kinds of thinking. My professors were terrific, and they were always there for me. I received a great education that was worth its weight in gold.

Now we have the opportunity and a plan to make a UVM education even greater. The University of Vermont is a cause worth believing in. And your support will reward you with more in return than you will ever be able to give. I know because the more deeply involved I have become in UVM, the more satisfaction and stimulation I have derived, and the more new and interesting friendships I have formed. UVM will benefit from your support of The Campaign for the University of Vermont. I promise that you will, too.
