Dr. Brandenburg retired effective June 2002. He was Dean of the School of Business Administration and of the Division of Engineering, Mathematics and Business Administration at UVM from 1987-1992. He has served as Senior Advisor to the Provost. The Governor appointed him as the first Chairman of the Vermont Health Care Authority from 1992-94. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at the Dartmouth Medical School.

Dr. Brandenburg has authored or co-authored over thirty articles and book chapters on business strategy, R&D management, planning systems, corporate energy management, management education and health care delivery. He has been a consultant to industry on R&D management and business planning, and to universities and government agencies of the organization and evaluation of management education programs.

Prior to joining the University of Vermont, he was Dean and Professor of Management at the Graduate School of Business and Public Management and the College of Business Administration, University of Denver (1980-87); Vice President, Manufacturing and Engineering of the Carborundum Company (1976-80); Dean and Professor of the School of Management, State University of New York at Buffalo (1969-76); and Associate Professor and Associate Dean, Graduate School of Industrial Administration, Carnegie Mellon University where he served as Acting Dean in 1967-68. He has served on boards of directors of colleges, manufacturing and service companies, a bank, cultural institutions and health care management and delivery organizations.

Professional Service
He has chaired and served on college and university accreditation committees in the United States, Israel, and Bulgaria for the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education, and the Middle States Association. Dr. Brandenburg was President of the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (now AACSB-International Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) (1984-85); and President of the Middle Atlantic Association of Colleges of Business Administration (1974-75).

Vermont Public Service
Dr. Brandenburg has served as President of the Board of Directors of the Vermont Institute for Science, Math and Technology, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Vermont Ethics Network. He performs policy research for the Health Care Task Force of the Vermont Business Roundtable and has been a member of the Health Care Study Committee of the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce. He previously served nine year terms on the Board of Trustees of Champlain College and Board of Directors of the Leadership Champlain Program. He also has been on the Board of Directors of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Flynn Theater, and in 1988-89 a member of the Governor's Commission on the Economic Future of Vermont.
