Enabling Outlook From Off-Campus Without a VPN Connection

This tutorial is for computers which are already part of the BSADNET domain. (You log on to your computer with your BSAD username and password, and the School of Business Administration installed your Microsoft Office suite.)

  1. Close Microsoft Outlook if it is open.
  2. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
  3. Under E-Mail accounts, click the E-Mail accounts button.
  4. Select View or change existing e-mail accounts and click next.
  5. Select the account named Microsoft Exchange Server and click Change.
  6. Ensure that bsadmail.bsad.uvm.edu is in the Microsoft Exchange Server field, and uncheck Use Cached Exchange Mode for now, we recommend you re-check it later.
  7. Ensure that your name (Last name, First name) is in the "User Name" field.
  8. Click More Settings.
  9. Click the Connection tab.
  10. Under Exchange over the Internet, check the Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP box, and click Exchange Proxy Settings.
  11. Under Connection Settings, type bsadmail.uvm.edu in the “Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange” field.
  12. Under Proxy authentication settings, click Basic Authentication.
  13. Click OK.
  14. Click OK.
  15. Click Next.

  18. Open Microsoft Outlook and ensure that it downloads your content. (mail, calendar, contacts, etc.) NOTE: When it asks you for your username, you must put your full qualified name i.e. YourUserName@bsad.uvm.edu or bsadnet\YourUserName
  19. Once you have confirmed this, we recommend you go through steps 1-6 again but Check the Use Cached Exchange Mode box in the final step. This setting tells the program to keep your content saved in Outlook on your computer even when you are not connected to the exchange server. (connected to the internet)
  20. Click Next.
  21. Click Finish.
  22. Click Close.
