Program Overview

Experiential learning and professional development are two of the core values of the Grossman School of Business. The alumni mentorship program serves to fuse these two values by connecting current juniors and seniors with Business School alumni to foster career exploration and growth, develop professional skills and competencies, and build connections between students and alumni.

For Students

Who can apply

  • Students who serve as Peer Mentors are automatically eligible to participate.
  • Junior level standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Dean’s list students from the previous semester
  • Beta Gamma Sigma members

Application Requirements

  • Complete student application (Peer Mentors must still complete an application)
  • 2 Letters of recommendation
  • A copy of unofficial transcript

Student Mentee Expectations

  • Be available
  • Be engaged
  • Consistent communication via phone, email or other media of choice
  • Establish regular “meeting” times; readjusting as necessary
  • Active listening
  • Have clear goals and expectations

 

For Alumni

Who can apply?

  • A ny UVM alumni with at least 5 years of full time work experience may apply.

How long is the mentorship relationship

  • The mentorship relationship will run from May 1 of each calendar year until April 30th of the following year. In early January mentors will be asked if they would like to continue in the program and if they would like to continue their current mentor/mentee relationship or be matched with a new mentee.

Timeline

  • Beginning of Spring Semester - Applications Accepted
  • April 1st - Mentor & Mentee applications due
  • April 11th - Mentee MANDATORY orientation
  • May 1st - Matching emails sent
  • Homecoming - Alumni Mentor Reception
  • End of Fall Semester - Evaluations sent to participants, option to reenroll or opt out

Alumni Mentor Expectations

  • Be available, as your schedule permits, to meet with the student
  • Establish regular “meeting” times; readjusting as needed
  • Mentors and mentees are expected to “meet” at least once a month for the duration of the program
  • Active listening
  • Guidance to help the student achieve goals
