Jon Troutman, Marketing major, '07
Jon Troutman is a 2007 Business School of Administration graduate with a concentration in Marketing. Born and raised on Cape Cod, MA, he was introduced to his life's passion, food and wine, at a young age while working in his family’s restaurant. After graduating, he returned home to his family's restaurant as the General Manager. He continued his studies in 2009, becoming Certified with the Court of Master Sommeliers. Today he is Senior Editor of the online wine social network and publication, Cork'd.
Troutman says the School of Business Administration allowed him to gain a solid understanding and foundation in all aspects of the business world- finance, accounting, management information systems, and marketing. He believes those skills are necessary to thrive in the type of “entrepreneurial” start-up world that his current employer, Cork’d, started in. He believes his best piece of advice for Business School students is to follow their passion.
“Whether it be the stock market or stamp collecting, if you make a career out of your passion, you’ll be in a position to apply the skills learned at the School of Business to work your face off, succeed, and enjoy what you’re doing without it ever feeling like work,” he said.
