GEOL 095A ~ The Dynamic Earth as Viewed through Google(tm) Earth
CRN: 93875

Instructor: John M. Hughes Professor of Geology More . . .

Earth is a dynamic planet, and scientists have learned much about it by "stepping back" and viewing Earth from afar, i.e., from space. Through the use of Google™ Earth, it is now possible for even laypeople to study Earth in ways that were not feasible a few decades ago. As learning partners, Dr. Hughes and student colleagues will explore planet Earth as geologists, unraveling our planet's history by providing and understanding the dynamic processes that have shaped it. Where appropriate and by using Google™ Earth, we will view those processes and observe the results of 4.6 billion years of changes.

Requirements Satisfied: one non-lab Natural Science course
Meets: TR10:00am-11:15am

GEOL 095B ~ Global Climate Change and Sustainability
CRN: 93876

Instructor: Julia Perdrial Assistant Professor of Geology More . . .

What is sustainability and what has it to do with climate change? Definitions of sustainability are varied but often include the need for a holistic view of our planet. We will therefore approach the complexity of climate change with system thinking, i.e., discuss stocks, flows of greenhouse gasses, cycles and feedbacks, and thus, societal impacts.

Requirements Satisfied: one non-lab Natural Science course
