Research Professor of Public Policy Studies, African American Studies and Economics at Duke University and Cary C. Boshamer Professor of Economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

William A. Darity, Jr., is Research Professor of Public Policy Studies, African American Studies and Economics at Duke University and Cary C. Boshamer Professor of Economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he is also Director of the Institute of African American Studies. He is the author of The Black Underclass: Critical Essays on Race and Unwantedness, co-author of Macroeconomics and The Loan Pushers: The Role of Commercial Banks in the International Debt Crisis, editor of Economics and Discrimination, 2 volumes, and co-author of Persistent Disparity: Race and Economics in the United States Since 1945. His recent published work includes studies of ethnicity, phenotype, and racial self-classification among Latinos as well as a paper entitled "The Economics of Reparations" coauthored with Dania Frank. Darity also continues to engage in collaborative work with economists Arthur Goldsmith and Jonathan Veum on the effects of motivation and self-esteem on labor market outcomes. His research focuses on inequality by race, class and ethnicity; North-South theories of development and trade; history of economic thought and political economy; the Atlantic slave trade; the industrial revolution; racial and economic inequality in the United States; international finance and trade in less developed countries; and the social psychological effect of unemployment.

Darity was appointed as a Marsh professor in 2006. Plans for his first campus visit the week of April 16 - 20, 2007 are being developed and coordinated by Associate Dean Stephanie Seguino Stephanie.Seguino@uvm.edu and Assistant Professor of Economics Rhonda Sharpe rhonda.sharpe@uvm.edu.
