Academic Year & Semester Definitions

Because appointment letters written to faculty are legal contracts, we must use the approved language to define the academic year and semesters. This language is as follows:

Academic Year -- The academic year is defined as beginning one week before the registration period in the fall and extending one week beyond Commencement in the spring.

Fall Semester -- The fall semester is defined as beginning one week before the registration period and extending through December 31.

Spring Semester -- The spring semester is defined as beginning January 1 and extending one week beyond commencement.
