Sabbaticals

Definitions:
  • Full Sabbatical ~ Two semesters (may be non-consecutive) at 77.3% of salary.
    Eligibility ~ 12 semesters of prior active service.
  • One Semester Sabbatical ~ One semester at 100% of salary.
    Eligibility ~ 12 semesters of prior active service.
  • Half Sabbatical ~ One semester at 77.3% of salary.
    Eligibility ~ 6 semesters of prior active service.

Due Dates:

Applications for sabbatical are due in the Dean's Office by September 1 of the year prior to the sabbatical year.

Deferrals or Other Changes:

Deferrals or changes to approved sabbaticals must be formally documented and approved by the Office of the Provost. To do so, the faculty member must forward an explanatory memo, along with with Chair's endorsement of the change, to the Dean. The Dean will review the proposal and send a recommendation to the Office of the Provost.

Nota Bene:

A recipient of a sabbatical leave will be required to return to the University and serve at least one full academic year following the Sabbatical leave, assuming such a position is offered to the faculty member by the University. Failure to fulfill this obligation shall require the full and immediate repayment of salary and benefits received from the University while on leave, unless the faculty member and the University make alternative arrangements.
