Terence Cuneo's book, The Normative Web: An Argument for Moral Realism (Oxford University Press, 2007), has been designated as one of two Honorable Mentions for the American Philosophical Association's Book Prize.
The APA awards the Book Prize once every two years; the prize is awarded to the best book in philosophy published by a younger scholar in the two previous years.

Congratulations to the 18 Public Anthropology Award winners from the University of Vermont in Professor Cameron Wesson's Anth 021 (Introduction to Human Cultures) class who participated in a North American competition involving over 4,000 students from 28 schools. Wesson has played an integral part in Public Anthropology’s online student community, showcasing the ability of Vermont students to learn effective writing skills while being active global citizens. He demonstrates how combining technology with cultural concerns in academic courses positively engages students to participate in the broader world beyond their university, while gaining the skills needed for a productive, active life after graduation.
Wesson’s research addresses the political economy of Native American societies during the contact and colonial periods in the southeastern U.S. with particular interest in the Muskogee Creek peoples. He creatively synthesizes archaeological data with modern Creek informant accounts in his research to gain an in-depth understanding of these periods. He has published three books as well as a number of journal articles and book chapters on these subjects.

Last year the Department of Theatre joined the national theatre organization KCACTF — the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. The country is divided into eight regions and UVM is in region 1 which also includes Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, upstate New York, and Maine.
This year the department sent students to compete in acting, stage management, and technical competitions. Three of the six actors nominated to participate in the Irene Ryan acting competition attended. Though none of the students made it past the first round, the word from the judges was that the students showed well in a competition that was incredibly tough. One of the two stage managers who attended was given a callback.
The highlight was in technical design for the UVM production of The Seagull. The student lighting designer took second place and the student set designer took first. The scenic designer will be attending the national competition in Washington, DC in April competing for cash prizes and scholarships.

The Geography Department now has a Facebook page and they're up to 36 fans in one week! Music Department faculty members Patricia Julien (flute) and Tom Cleary (keyboards), along with local Burlington musicians Alec Julien (guitar), Joe Englert (bass), and Caleb Bronz (drums), play together as the group Fragile Zoe. Performing groove-oriented instrumental funk and fusion, with original tunes plus pieces by Mike Stern, Bela Fleck, John Scofield, Jeff Lorber, and others, the group will be performing on Thursday, April 1 at Club Metronome (188 Main St., Burlington -- above Nectar's) to celebrate the release of their debut CD, Frame Problem. Beginning at 8:00 PM, the opening act Mandarax will perform, followed by Fragile Zoe from 9:00-11:00 PM. Tickets are $8.00 in advance (Flynn box office or www.Flynntix.org), and $10.00 at the door.
