Representatives from departments and programs (pictured above) presented awards to top seniors in almost all areas of the arts and sciences.
Students, families and guests were welcomed by Dean Eleanor M. Miller.
The guest speaker, English Dept. Senior Lecturer Daniel Lusk (pictured left), paid tribute to Lake Champlain through a short film (shown as guests were arriving in the chapel), as well as selected readings from Lake Studies: Meditations on Lake Champlain. Based on research of what lies beneath the surface, this cycle of original poems explores the natural and human history, legend, and lore of the Lake.
Recognized during the ceremony were the six CAS students who participated in the McNair Scholars Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program, pictured above with Biology Professor Jim O. Vigoreaux.
After all the departmental awards were handed out, English Dept. Chairperson Tony Magistrale presented the last award of the ceremony: the Hannah Howard Prize for Outstanding Achievement in the College of Arts and Sciences. The prize is given annually to the graduating senior with the highest academic standing in the college. This year's recipient, English major Rachel Conrad, was also recognized for her College Honors thesis: Transforming Tuberculosis: A Brief History of Literary Consumption and Henry James's The Wings of the Dove.
