Mapping a Network Drive-Windows 7

Mapping a Network Drive-Windows 7

If you are on campus, or logged into UVM's VPN client from anywhere AND on a fast network connection, you can map a network drive to either your Zoo or Active Directory storage space. Here's how:

Zoo

  1. Double click the "Computer" icon on the desktop, or go to Start-->Computer:

    Map a Network Drive

  2. Click the "Map network drive" link along the top of the Computer window and the following window will appear:

    Network folder

  3. Select an un-used drive letter, such as Z:

  4. In the Folder field enter \\zoosecure\youruvmnetid replacing youruvmnetid with your UVM netID. If you are unsure as to what your UVM netID is look yourself up on the UVM Online Directory. Your UVM netID is listed at the bottom of your contact information.

  5. "Reconnect at logon" should be off if you are not on your own machine, on a public machine, or are connecting from someone else's user account. Otherwise you can leave "Reconnect at logon" turned on and Windows will reconnect this network drive when you log in.

  6. Put a check in the box next to "Connect using different credentials" and click "Finish"

  7. A security box will appear as below
  8. Security box

  9. Enter your UVM netID in the User Name field and your UVM netID\email password in the Password field. Click OK

  10. If you've done everything correctly you should see an open Windows Explorer window showing you the contents of your personal directory on ZOO. You may then copy files to and from the mapped drive as if it was a floppy disk, thumb drive, or any other network volume.
