CAMPUS Active Directory: Mapping a Network Drive
If you are on campus, or logged into UVM's VPN client from anywhere AND on a fast network connection, you can map a network drive to either your Zoo or Active Directory storage space.
On a campus joined computer all you should need to do is log in and under "My Computer" should be both your personal "My Documents" folder as well as an S: drive mapping to the shared directory listing.
Students will not see mapped drives even if they do log onto a CAMPUS joined computer, nor do they have personal storage space under AD. Students can manually map a drive to a departmental shared directory however as long as they have the proper permissions to that directory and follow the directions for "Shared Directory" below.
Here's how:
Personal Storage Space
- Either right click on My Computer or My Network Places on your Desktop, or select Start, then right click on My Computer or My Network Places
- Select "Map a Network Drive ..."
- Select an un-used drive letter, such as "T:"
- In the folder field enter:
\\files\youruvmnetid
replacing "youruvmnetid" with your UVM netID. If you are unsure as to what your UVM netID is look yourself up on the UVM Online Directory. Your UVM netID is listed at the bottom of your contact information. - "Reconnect at logon" should be off if you are not on your own machine, on a public machine, or are connecting from someone else's user account. Otherwise you can leave "Reconnect at logon" turned on and Windows will reconnect you to this network drive when you log in.
- Click on "different user name" in "Connect using a different
user name", which opens another window:

Enter "CAMPUS\<uvm netID> in the User Name field, replacing <UVM netID> with your UVM netID.
Enter your UVM email password in the Password field.
- Then click Connect.
If you've done everything correctly you should see an open Windows Explorer window showing you the contents of your personal directories on the CAMPUS domain servers.
You may then copy files to and from the mapped drive as if it was a floppy disk or any other network volume.
Shared Directory
To connect to your department's CAMPUS active directory shared directory, do the following:
- Either right click on My Computer or My Network Places on your Desktop, or select Start, then right click on My Computer or My Network Places
- Select "Map a Network Drive ..." and the following window will
appear:

- Select an un-used drive letter, such as "T:"
- In the folder field enter:
\\files\shared\
- "Reconnect at logon" should be off if you are not on your own machine, on a public machine, or are connecting from someone else's user account. Otherwise you can leave "Reconnect at logon" turned on and Windows will reconnect you to this network drive when you log in.
- Click on "different user name" in "Connect using a different
user name", which opens another window:

Enter "CAMPUS\<uvm netID> in the User Name field, replacing <UVM netID> with your UVM netID.
Enter your UVM email password in the Password field.
- Then click Connect.
If you've done everything correctly you should see an open Windows Explorer window showing you the contents of the Shared directory, locate and double click on your department's shared directory to open that folder.
You may then copy files to and from the mapped drive as if it was a floppy disk or any other network volume according to the permissions you have been granted for your department's shared directory.
