Mounting a Volume to your Desktop
If you are on campus, or logged into UVM's VPN client from anywhere AND on a fast network connection, you can mount a network drive to your Active Directory storage space. Here's how:
CAMPUS Active Directory
To connect to your personal CAMPUS active directory space (available to faculty and staff ONLY), do the following:
- Select Connect to Server... from the Go menu in the OS X
Finder. The following window will open:
- In the Server Address field enter:
cifs://files/netid
replacing "netID" with your own full UVM netID (example: jblow would type cifs://files/jblow). If you are unsure as to what your UVM netID is look yourself up on the UVM Online Directory. Your UVM netID is listed at the bottom of your contact information.
- Then click Connect. You will see a login window asking for
your User Name and Password:
Make sure that you change "Workgroup or Domain" to be "CAMPUS", then enter your UVM netID and password and click OK. - If you've done everything correctly you should see an icon
appear on the Desktop matching your UVM netID name and a window will
open showing you the contents of your personal directory on the CAMPUS
Active Directory server:
CAMPUS Active Directory, Departmental Shared Directory
- If you want to connect to your department's shared
directory, select Connect to Server... from the Go menu in the OS X
Finder. The following window will open:

- In the Server Address field enter:
cifs://files/shared/ - Click Connect and a login window will open:
Make sure that you change "Workgroup or Domain" to be "CAMPUS", then enter your UVM netID and password and click OK. - If you've done everything correctly you should see an icon
appear on the Desktop called SHARED and a window will open showing you
the contents of the shared directory:
Locate and double click on your department's shared directory to open it.
You may then copy files to and from the mounted volume as if it was a floppy disk or any other network volume.
