A. Required shared navigation

• UVM Home
• College of Arts and Sciences
• Department of XXX
• Explore (or Discover) Department Name

This section should contain sections such as the following:

• What Makes XX Special?
• Faculty Research
• Careers in XXX
• Advising (Note: "Advising" can also be elevated to top level menu status. It is not required, but optional there).
• FAQs
• Undergraduate Majors (optional addition: “minors and concentrations”)

This section should contain sections such as:

• Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in XX
• XX Concentration
• Minor in XX
• Graduate Programs (if available)
• Faculty (and Staff if preferred)
• Courses (The Dean's Office has specified that they'd like a generic course plug-in used rather than departments crafting their own course content)
• Student Opportunities (could change slightly where applicable, ie. Music: “Ensemble Opportunities”)

This section should contain sections such as:

• Study abroad
• Research/internships/APLE
• Etc.
• Events
• Contact Us (could include staff here but ONLY if primary email contact is generic departmental address!)

B. Recommended elective navigation

This is up to departments to include those that are appropriate for them; not to exceed eleven items in left hand menu

• Special Programs (ie: CAP, Anthro)
• Facilities (ie: labs, galleries, etc.)
• Honors and Awards (ie: scholarships awarded, student awards, faculty awards)
• Institutes
• News (or some variation such as: News, Events, Multimedia)
• Advising (featured above as a submenu item under "Explore/Discover," many departments may elect to make this a top level menu item.

C. Alternative/secondary navigation

Departments can use the global template navigation (top navigation bar) for things that aren’t common themes among departments and therefore don’t belong in the left hand menu, ie. Music: Auditions and Required Tests, Lessons, Recitals and Juried Exams.
