Need a new computer? There are several ways available to Arts and Sciences Faculty and Staff to get computer hardware and software:
The IT Annual Purchase is our annual distribution of College funds earmarked for technology. In general this program is used to replace the worst of the worst computers currently in the hands of UA contract covered faculty and base budget department staff. Applications are solicited from departments in the fall semester of every year and the results are returned to department chairs and admins before the winter break.
The UVM Computer Advance Program (CAP) is a relatively new program started with seed money from the Vice Provost for Learning and Information Technology. Its purpose is similar to our IT Annual Purchase in that its intent is to replace the worst computers in a given area. However, CAP is open to any member of your faculty or staff including GTFs and others not eligible for the IT Annual Purchase. The CAP program operates under a similar schedule as our IT Purchase and provides a fixed $750.00 subsidy towards the purchase of a fixed list of eligible computer configurations. Note that CAS Computing Services combines the ITAP and CAP programs together in order to simplify the process for departments. We submit requests to CAP on your behalf rather than asking departments to submit the same requests to two different programs.
New Tenure Track Faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences are entitled to a one time computer allowance.
