Identify A Webmaster
Each department or program within the College of Arts and Sciences must identify someone within their department as "webmaster". The department must inform the Dean's Office of who this person is and keep the Dean's Office apprised of personnel changes as they occur.
A departmental webmaster should be:
- a permanent employee of the department either faculty or staff.
- the primary contact for all departmental web page feedback, revisions, etc.
- reachable from the department web site either via "Contact Us" or by explicit contact information.
Using third party developers, talented graduate or undergraduate students etc for some aspects of web maintenance is allowed but only if there is an official webmaster appointed who meets the criteria above and is ultimately responsible for the content, organization and maintenance of the department web site.
In the past departments have hired outside developers, paid talented students, etc. to develop beautiful and complicated web sites only to then discover that maintenance of the site was difficult to impossible after the third party contract ended or the student graduated.
