Students should begin their study of Linguistics with LING 080, Introduction to Linguistics, which serves as the gateway course and prerequisite for many of the other linguistics classes.
Introduction to biological, cognitive, and cultural bases of human communication through language, and to modern linguistic theory. Assignments provide opportunities for critical thinking and writing. Cross-listed with CSD (formerly CMSI) 080.
In addition to linguistics core courses and electives, students are required to choose among four concentration areas to complete their major: Psycholinguisitics; Sociolinguistics; Language Studies; Formal Linguistics.
