Gateway/Entry-Point Courses into Art History Major/Minor
The following are courses that will provide students a good introduction to the major. In addition to these, students who may be interested in an Art History major should begin or complete the required language component (any foreign language through 052).
ARTH 005 Western Art: Ancient-Medieval
Introduction to the visual arts, primarily painting, sculpture and architecture in the Western world from prehistoric through Gothic. Usually offered spring and fall.
ARTH 006 Western Art: Renaissance - Modern
Introduction to the visual arts, primarily painting, sculpture and architecture in the Western world from Renaissance to present. Prerequisite: It is recommended that ART 005 be taken before ART 006. Usually offered spring and fall.
ARTH 008 Asian Art
Introduction to the artistic traditions and major architectural monuments of India, China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. Usually offered in the spring.
