Entrance Requirements
The university welcomes transfer applications from students who have met all university-wide entrance requirements either in high school or in college. Most successful transfer applicants present a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.8. Other considerations include trends in grades, preparation for major, and space availability for program selected.

The high school record is given major consideration for students who have earned 20 or fewer college credits. With more than 20 college credits, the college record assumes more importance but your high school record will help determine completion of entrance requirements for your selected field of study. Coursework not completed at the high school level may be fulfilled by the equivalent college-level academic work. Students who were wait listed or denied admission previously as high school students should be working toward completion of a minimum of 27 semester hours at the point of transfer application to UVM.
All applicants must complete the following requirements prior to enrolling at UVM (one college semester generally substitutes for one high school year). Please review these minimum requirements, as well as additional requirements (below) for each of our undergraduate schools and colleges.

Minimum entrance requirements
- four years of English
- three years of mathematics (Algebra I, Algebra II and geometry (or equivalents)
- two years of the same foreign language (American sign language meets this requirement)
- two years of a natural or physical science, including a laboratory science
- three years of social sciences
Coursework not completed at the high school level may be fulfilled by equivalent college-level academic work. In general, one semester of college work is considered equal to one year of high school study. Any exceptions to these requirements are made on a case-by-case basis.
Transferring Credits
For credit to transfer into the University of Vermont, the following criteria must be met:
- Courses taken at an academically accredited, degree-granting institution.
- Grade earned equivalent to a
C
or higher (2.0 on a 4-point scale). - Courses are considered comparable in content, nature and intensity to those offered at UVM, as determined by the Office of Transfer Affairs.
GPA note: Courses transferred in this manner are added to your UVM transcript as credit. The GPA earned for those courses does not affect your UVM GPA. All transfer credit is provisional until you have successfully completed one semester of coursework at UVM.

Articulation agreements: UVM offers a few specific opportunities to begin a particular program at another Vermont institution, and to finish it at UVM. Specific articulation agreements are held with the Community College of Vermont, Saint Michael's College and Vermont Technical College. AP, IB, CLEP and credit for other courses/exams taken

Degree completion while at UVM
There are limits on the number of credits transferred that may be applied to the degree program and major selected. In general, 30 of the last 45 credits earned for the UVM degree must be taken at the University. Consult the online catalogue for specific college/school policies.
Requirements and/or Recommendations by UVM Schools/Colleges
When applying to UVM, all transfer applicants apply to one of the following seven schools or colleges. Additional entrance requirements or recommendations for each are listed here:
Agriculture and Life Sciences
Required: One year of biology and one year of chemistry for science majors
Recommended: Candidates are strongly encouraged to take one year of physics and at least one year of math beyond Algebra II (calculus is preferred).
Arts and Sciences
Recommended: In addition to the University's minimum entrance requirements from secondary school, college level coursework that spans literature, humanities, fine arts, languages, social sciences, math, and science disciplines.
Transfer candidates who have earned significant credit hours at other institutions are advised to consult the UVM Catalogue regarding degree completion timeline.
Note to music majors: Candidates for entry into UVM as a music major seeking the B.A. or the B.Mus. degree must complete an audition as part of the process. Auditions are required for any student who wishes to be a music major. Visit the Music Department's website for details.
Business Administration
The School of Business Administration requires transfer applicants to have completed at least one semester of college level calculus and one semester of college level economics, micro or macro economics is preferred, with at least a 2.5 (C+) or better. AP credits are acceptable. Transfer applicants who do not meet this requirement will only be considered for their second major choice. Students who do not meet the minimum requirements are encouraged to enroll in the College of Arts and Sciences to complete the Business Prerequisites prior to initiating an internal transfer.
Please review the University’s transfer credit policy (above) regarding upper level business field and concentration requirements. Transfer credits must come from an AACSB-accredited institution.
Education and Social Services
Recommended: One year of biology for Human Development and Family Studies and Social Work majors.
Recommended: Math and science coursework beyond the minimum for teacher education majors.
Engineering and Mathematical Sciences
Required: Four years of math, including trigonometry or precalculus. One year of chemistry and one year of physics for all engineering majors. All other majors: two years of a laboratory-based science.
The Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources
Required: One year of biology and one year of chemistry or physics. Additional year of college preparatory math beyond Algebra 2.
Nursing and Health Sciences
Required: One year of biology and one year of chemistry for all majors; four years of math, including trigonometry or pre-calculus; one year of physics for exercise and movement science majors.
Recommended: Additional science course beyond chemistry and biology in the senior year of high school for all majors. One year of physics is recommended for athletic training, radiation therapy and nuclear medicine technology majors.
Note to nursing applicants: Due to extremely high demand for admission to our professional nursing program, there will be very few, if any, transfer admissions offered for the Fall 2013.
