Universal Design Lab
Assistant
The UDTL is a
place that students with disabilities can use to obtain course notes and
materials in alternative formats that best support their learning
style.
Working at the UDTL will help develop both your technical and
interpersonal skills.
You will be taught to use various computer
programs to complete tasks in the UDTL. In addition, you will be
communicating with students and faculty that are involved with our
services. This is an excellent position for someone interested in pursuing
careers in human services or computer science. You will gain experience working
with a diverse population while also learning new and unique computer
skills.
UDTL
Tasks:
1) Assist in making course materials accessible for students with various disabilities:

Scanning textbooks and class notes
-
Using conversion software for text recognition
2) Assisting students with the use of various programs on our lab computers. These programs include: Kurzweil, TextAloud, Inspirations and ZoomText.
3) Completing basic office functions:
-
Corresponding by phone and email
-
Taking messages
-
Scheduling appointments
-
Photocopying
