Disability Related Residential Life Accommodation Request
It is the intent of ACCESS, in conjunction with our partner in this process, Residential Life, to provide reasonable and appropriate housing accommodations. Questions or concerns regarding the process below can be directed to ACCESS.
Eligibility
ACCESS works with students who have certified, documented disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Documentation will be required in order to fairly and equitably evaluate Disability Related Residential Life Accomodation Requests.
Students must provide documentation that specifically addresses the need for a Disability Related Residential Life Accommodation.
Please be aware that a diagnosis in and of itself does not automatically qualify a student for a Disability Related Residential Life Accommodation.
All Disability Related Residential Life Accommodation Requests are determined on a case-by-case basis by ACCESS.
Accommodation recommendations are not location specific. Accommodations can often be provided via many housing options allowing for the types of environmental controls recommended and deemed reasonable/appropriate.
ACCESS and Residential Life may work collaboratively along with other departments on campus in order to determine reasonable and appropriate solutions to requests in situations where requests do not necessitate specific accommodation.
Timeframe
Residential Life will contact all current students in the spring semester to begin the process for Room Selection for the next academic year. Please follow all Residential Life processes. If you are interested in any type of Programmed Housing, please follow the application process in addition to following the procedures for requesting a Disability Related Residential Life Accommodation
A student who is seeking a Disability Related Residential Life Accommodation Request must contact ACCESS during the established time period to request accommodations.
- Established time periods begin approximately one month prior to a deadline.
- ACCESS will make every effort to contact students in advance of deadlines to provide reminders. This will be accomplished by providing information in postings, via our website and through the ACCESS listserv. However, students are encouraged to advocate for themselves by seeking these services in advance.
It is the responsibility of the student with a disability to request accommodations within Residential Life Deadlines. Late requests may result in limited availability of or inability to provide accommodations.
