Zoology

Overview

A researcher examining a turtleStudents of zoology learn that to fully understand life requires us not only to study ourselves but also other organisms, their history and context. UVM's Biology Department offers a zoology major through an array of courses, field work and research that educates students about life forms ranging from molecules to ecosystems, with a special emphasis on animals.

Faculty guide students through academics and choice of discipline

Students may choose a course of study that leads to becoming a generalist in the field or concentrate their studies in cell and molecular biology, pre-professional (including pre-medical), biology, ecology, evolutionary biology or neurobiology. Prominent faculty scientists involve students in funded research in a wide variety of disciplines. Small, hands-on classes, field trips, access to cutting-edge technology and close interaction with faculty mentors aid in the learning process. Students also conduct a variety of internships and conduct research that often is supported by stipends, departmental and university awards.
