Overview

Rooftops of buildings on historic University RowWomen's and Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary program comprising faculty and courses in more than a dozen disciplines. Instruction topics cover a range: anthropology, economics, gender issues, political science, literature, art and music. Majors and minors take an introductory course and a senior seminar in feminist theory, and may develop self-designed concentrations.

Internships steer job choices

Real-world work experience is gained through internships available at several local nonprofit and advocacy organizations. Most majors seek to improve the lives of others and, upon graduation, seek professions that allow them to do so.

Career Directions

  • Advanced study: Many graduates continue their studies in medical school or graduate programs in public administration, social work, women's studies, English and history, among other disciplines.
  • Careers: Women's Studies graduates tend to cluster in jobs in the health/social services/human services areas. Previous graduates have gone on to careers in law, social work, art administration, midwifery, business, government, social services and publishing.
