A professor lecturing at a seminarUVM's political science students have access to an impressive faculty of more than 20 scholars — among them, experts who actively shape national policy and, through the national media, lend perspective to world events. Exciting internships, research and study-abroad options complement probing coursework and prepare graduates for an unlimited number of careers; the Political Science Department's pre-law advising helps graduates gain admission to law school at a rate well above the national average.

  • Careers: Political science provides an ideal liberal arts background suitable for many careers, including business, government, political interest groups, journalism, law, international affairs and teaching.

  • Success stories: A small sampling of positions held by political science alumni from UVM includes: a congressional aide, a Teach for America volunteer, a press secretary for a U.S. senator, an officer in the U.S. Foreign Service, an advertising manager for an international newspaper and a public relations manager for a major media company.

  • Law school: Recent graduates have been admitted to Georgetown University, Boston College, University of Chicago and New York University.
