UVM's Mathematics and Statistics Department keeps its classes small — fewer than 35 students — and its interactions personal despite the popularity of the major. Students go on to such diverse fields as computer science, business, law and government work for organizations such as the National Security Agency. Also see: Statistics.
Majors, who may pursue their degrees either through the university's College of Engineering and Mathematics or the College of Arts and Sciences, have access to award-winning faculty in many fields. Most professors teach introductory through advanced courses — while also editing major international journals and writing fundamental textbooks used all over the world.

Graduate school: Alumni have gone to graduate school in mathematics, statistics or business administration or in other fields such as dentistry, medicine and law. They have attended graduate school at the University of Maryland, State University of New York, The Ohio State University, the University of California-Berkeley, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Vermont.
Alumni have become professors at schools such as University of Texas, George Washington University and Mayo Medical School.
Careers: Recent graduates are now working in business, industry, government communications, computers and finance. They work for IBM, National Life of Vermont, IDX Corp., Liberty Mutual Insurance, Mitre Corp., Goodrich Aerospace and the Peace Corps.
