Students with a strong interest in and aptitude for science who want a challenging, dynamic career should consider the integrated biological science major. The rigorous program helps students develop a broad background in the biosciences during their first and second years through courses in biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics and through work with faculty mentors in modern research laboratories. Students refine their interests as juniors and seniors by taking advanced life-science electives. Each student has a personal faculty advisor who helps in selecting courses, developing career plans, and establishing contacts in the field.
Students have the choice of pursuing the major through UVM's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences or College of Arts and Sciences. While core courses remain the same, first year programs, as well as elective and distribution requirements, differ between these two options.
