The new Film and Television Studies major at UVM provides a background in the theoretical and critical analysis of film and television. Learning emphasis is on discovery and understanding how aesthetic form contributes to the impact of film and television. Students write papers, make critical presentations, have group discussions, read extensively, and teach individual sessions.
Courses focus on a range of film topics including: film noir, science fiction, the French New Wave, and Italian Neo-Realism from historical, sociological, psychological, aesthetic, and technological perspectives. As such, the faculty draws from departments throughout the university. In addition, visiting theorists, screenwriters, and filmmakers enrich lectures and discussions.
