Overview

A communication sciences studentTo pursue a career in speech-language pathology or audiology, a student first needs to understand the form and structure of language. Communication sciences majors at UVM not only learn the basics of human communication and disorders, they also apply their knowledge in a campus-based professional clinic, and pursue independent study and faculty-mentored research.

Career Directions

  • Graduate school: 80 percent of graduates pursue graduate studies in speech-language pathology, audiology, psychology, linguistics or medicine at top schools, including the University of Arizona, University of Wisconsin and University of Washington.

  • Careers: Graduates are working as speech-language pathologists in schools, medical centers and private practice. An alumnus is chair of the Communication Sciences Department at McGill University in Montreal.
