Overview

A professor and a student consult about painting techniqueThe Art Department offers three majors: studio art, art history and art education.

Studio art majors study traditional and new art forms ranging from drawing, painting, sculpture and ceramics to graphic design, photography, film/video and computer art. Every faculty artist in the department publishes and/or exhibits original work. Small classes and accessibility to faculty hone studio art majors' skills, perception and perspective. Guest artists and scholars, and the rich arts culture on campus and in the Burlington community enrich opportunities for students.

Art history majors are exposed to significant genres and movements in art while learning the theories, critical thinking and methods of research that define the field. Their professors are deeply dedicated teachers as well as scholars.

Art education is listed in a separate profile.
