Course Description: Focuses on exploring theory and practice in responsive school organization for young adolescents, including interdisciplinary/partner teaming, block scheduling, and teacher advisories, as well as teaching lessons in one area of specialization. Pre/co-requisite: EDML 024, EDML 056.
Section Description: In this course, we will explore the EQs: How do we organize time, space and roles so that all middle level students can thrive? How do we advocate for young adolescents, middle level programs, and best practices? How do we examine our middle schools for issues of equity? What does it mean to be a middle grades teacher in the 21st century? For students taking the course for 6 cr, we will also engage in best practices for teaching science, STEM and sustainability in the middle grades through the lens of Next Generation Science Standards.
