Course Description:

Section Description: This course is the first semester of a two semester introduction to ancient Greek. Spoken throughout the ancient Mediterranean, Greek remains an important language for accessing the ancient texts and cultures of people living not only in Greece but also Turkey and Italy. Students will be introduced to the grammar, syntax, and vocabulary of Attic Greek spoken by the 5th century BCE Athenians. Classes will consist of lectures, activities, and short introductions to ancient Greek culture. By the end of the first semester students will be able to read selections from the Greek New Testament.
