HDFS 060 – Family Context of Development

Course Description: Developmental ecological approach to analysis of the family as a system in which individuals develop.

Section Description: HDFS 60 is an introductory course on development of family relationships and systems. Students learn to apply a develecological perspective combining developmental and ecological principles to describe how families change over time and how they shape the development of the individuals who make up the family. There are two main texts and a dozen or more additional readings. One text is an introduction to develecology; the other is an introduction to development of families. The course is open to any student; there are no pre-requisites, but permission is required to enroll.
