Geospatial Technologies (Undergraduate Minor)

Overview

A minor in Geospatial Technologies provides knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and spatial analyses. The tools offered by these technologies are essential in the acquisition, integration, and analysis of geographically-referenced data and applicable to a wide array of environmental issues from local to global scale. Complementing their major field of study, an enhanced understanding of geospatial technology will provide students with the expertise necessary to meet the demands of their diverse careers in the global workplace.

Requirements	Five courses (fifteen credits, at least nine credits of which must be at the 100-level or above); One course in Geospatial Technologies: NR 025, GEOG 081, CE 010/CE 012, ENSC 130, GEOL 151 / GEOG 144; Any one Geographic Information Systems course: GEOG 184, NR 143; Any one course from Remote Sensing: NR 146, GEOG 185; Any two elective courses (either two from Group A, or one course each from Group A and Group B):      Group A: NR 243, NR 245, GEOG 287, GEOG 281a, GEOG 281b, NR 285;      Group B: CS 014, CS 021, CS 042, CS 148, CS 189, ENGR 002, CDAE 101.
Prerequisites	Variable, depending on upper level courses chosen.
Other information	Geography majors who undertake the Geospatial Technologies minor are required to complete thirty-three credits in Geography and fifteen credits towards the Geospatial Technologies minor. GEOG 081 (Geotechniques) may be used to count towards both the major and the minor. However, students are still required to complete thirty credits of Geography courses.
