Overview
Biology is the study of life. Students can choose to pursue a Bachelor of Science in biological science, or a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. As a biological science BS major, students will explore life from the workings of single cells to whole organisms. Students begin their studies with courses that provide a strong base in introductory biology, chemistry and mathematics. They proceed to a core of intermediate-level courses that include genetics, ecology and evolution, and cell and molecular biology. To meet their elective requirements, students have access to the rich array of advanced life sciences courses available across the university. The biological science degree offers students the opportunity to do collaborative research with faculty drawn from across the university, including the highly regarded College of Medicine. Students may choose from a broad range of research opportunitites, some as early as the first year of study.
