What happens here – This neo-classical building was constructed in 1931 and contains eight galleries on two floors surrounding an elegant marble court. UVM and Vermont community members visit for the extensive permanent collection of ethnographic articles from cultures around the world (including an ancient Egyptian mummy and exquisite African beaded ornaments), as well as works by masters and other accomplished artists representing a range of periods and styles. Several traveling exhibits, recently including works by Picasso and Warhol, also come to the Fleming each year. The museum's permanent collections, combined with the museum's extensive lecture programs and educational activities, enrich many programs of study at the university.
