Hello,

deleted it. If you have not seen your news in this column, please send
it again, and I promise to include it in the next issue.

By the time you're reading our Class Notes, our reunion will be behind
us. I'm sure there will be many memories that well share and that
we'll return to our lives, having rekindled old friendships and made new
friends with the classes of '72 and '73. It has been great fun receiving
your emails. Please keep them coming. It makes our class notes far more
interesting! On with the news: I met Jason Robards III '73 in New York
City. Tom Reilly '71 and I finally got J to come uptown for an early supper.
Tom's son, Devon, is now two, and Jason had pictures of his baby son,
Gregory, who had just turned one. Who would have thought 30 years ago,
I'd be sitting with a former football player and my first date on campus,
watching them gush over their sons. I can't wait to enjoy empty-nest,
but it was fun to see these older dads have such enjoyment over their
little ones. Mags Caney Conant and I met Bonnie Christensen '73 for breakfast
before she left for Italy. Unfortunately, Bonnie will still be in Italy
at reunion time. Bonnie published the Biography of Woody Guthrie to rave
reviews (including the NY Times) this year, and she is currently working
on two other books. Bonnie wrote and illustrated her latest creation,
and it is awesome. Tim Scott wrote that he'll be in town soon to explore
the possibility of returning to Burlington. We'll report more on Tim in
the next issue. My daughter, Mary, graduates from Skidmore May 19th and
has been elected to Phi Beta Kappa. It will be a very emotional graduation
for me. Leslie Steeves is now on the faculty of the University of Oregons
School of Journalism & Communication in Eugene. She is married to
Dan Reece (from Iowa, no connection to Vermont) and has two daughters,
Fekerte and Anna. Leslies research relates to Africa, and the family
travels there often. Shell be in Ghana part of this summer. Katie
Geran is a quality improvement consultant at Fletcher Allen Health Care.
She is also an adjunct assistant professor in UVMs School of Nursing.
She loves interacting with current students. David and Marsha Reiter Pilachowski
live in Bennington, Vt., and Dave works at nearby Williams College. Marsha
works in the business office of Southern Vermont College. Their youngest
son, Evan, is an engineering student at UVM. I heard from Sandra Simpson
again, and she sent me some reflections on her current assignment overseas.
More on Sandra in the next issue. That's it! I'm sure we'll have lots
more news after Reunion. I'll look forward to seeing a lot of you and
expect copious notes this fall.

In this years winter Olympics, Ann Taylor became the first Vermonter
ever to coach a Venezuelan luge team. We know thats true because
it was the first time Venezuela ever entered a luge team, or any team
for that matter, in the Winter Games. Ann helped organize the four-person
team (a great story, but one too long for this space), served as its coach
and medical director, marched in the opening and closing ceremonies with
the team, and otherwise felt quite at home in Salt Lake City, where she
lived before moving back to the Burlington area a couple of years ago.
She is looking forward to the next Olympics, but in the meantime, shes
opening a private practice in physical therapy and a womens fitness
center in Milton, Vt. Nancy Greenleaf Canty has retired from physical
therapy. She and her husband, Peter, have moved but are still in Lafayette,

August 2001. Christine lives in Bradford, Mass., and works at EMD Pharmaceuticals,
where she is working on protein purification processes for anti-cancer
therapeutics. Mary Beth Cocuzzo OCallaghan lives in Wrentham, Mass.,
with her husband, Tom, and son Conor. They recently built a new home.
Mary Beth works at their family-owned Flooring America store. She enjoyed
seeing fellow UVMers at Lisa Burti Hanleys wedding in fall 2001.
Samuel Sloane started working at RBC Dain Rauscher, the private client
investment group of the Royal Bank of Canada in Abilene, Tex., last May.
Tracy Hauser Scarrow married her husband, James, on October 6, 2001. They
spent their honeymoon in South Africa and Namibia. Tracy continues to
work at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, but she is now
the special assistant to the chief judge. The Scarrows bought a house
in D.C., and they were looking forward to settling into it in the new
year. Marcia Hyde lives in Lyman, Maine, with her husband, Wayne, and
their children, Natalie, Peter, and Mary. Patrick Houle was recently appointed
chief technology officer for an insurance company based in Worcester,
Mass. It was great to hear from Mike Reardon, who welcomed his second
son, Matthew, into the family last summer. Matthew is adored
by his older brother, Connor. After six years in business, Mike sold the
popular Northeast Brewing Company in Boston, and he is now hoping to get
back in the investment business. The Brewing Company had its fifth and
final UVM holiday party last December with a record attendance of 300.
Mike also had a mini-Kappa Sig reunion with 15 brothers from all over
the Northeast last November. He still lives in Natick, Mass., and serves
on the UVM Regional Alumni Board in Boston. Peter Nalin, MD, currently
serves as residency director for the Indiana University family practice
residency. He moved to Indianapolis with his wife, Lucy 87, and
children Ansel and Emma last summer. Thanks for all the updates. Have
a wonderful rest of the summer and send me your news for the fall.
