Staff Council Meetings:
Monthly meetings take place on the first Tuesday of every month from 12:05-1:30. All members of the UVM community are welcome.

Officer Elections:
After several discussions between the Nomination Committee, Gary Derr, President Garimella, and the Staff Council Executive Board, the Executive Board passed a resolution this week to extend the terms of President Stephen Lunna and Vice President Caleb Gilbert for a maximum of one additional year, ending 6/30/21. With this decision, the Board aims to maintain leadership continuity and stability.
The Executive Board would like to thank those who expressed interest in Officer positions during this challenging time.
Representative Elections:
The nomination period for Spring 2020 Representative elections and appointments has now closed. There are 11 excellent nominations for the various colleges/units/divisions to consider, and we are aiming to have all open seats finalized by 5/30. Meanwhile, we have 30 Representatives as well as about a dozen at-large members returning for the FY21 year. A warm thank you to all those who have newly volunteered or who continue to serve UVM staff!

Just a brief update to say that the Staff Council office is still working with the Office of Institutional Research to analyse the results of the Staff Council Survey, and we expect to have more detailed information about those results AND about how we will use the results, as the summer goes on. For now, a couple fun facts:
- Roughly 50% of staff have taken advantage of UVM’s tuition remission benefit.
- 59% have taken advantage of professional development opportunities at UVM in the past year.

Staff Council is excited to announce our new website!
|

Applications for the Higher Education Resource Services (HERS) Institute at Wellesley College are now being accepted. HRDMA in partnership with the Division of Finance and Facilities will be funding three UVM participants.
The HERS Institute offers an intensive professional development experience that prepares women faculty and administrators for leadership roles in higher education. Participants will be expected to attend four weekend sessions during the academic year and to share what they have learned with the UVM community.
Interested individuals are encouraged to take advantage of this tremendous opportunity and apply. Deans, Directors, and Chairs are also encouraged to nominate current and aspiring women identified leaders for the HERS Institute. Complete program and application information is located on the HRDMA website.

University Place Street Improvements Project
University Place is due for an upgrade to better serve the campus and the community, and your input is greatly needed! University Place is located along UVM’s historic University Green between Main St. and Colchester Ave.
The City of Burlington and UVM are collaborating with Stantec and SE Group to make University Place safer for all people including pedestrians, bicyclists, and other active transportation users. Your help is needed to better understand how people are currently using the street and what improvements should be considered.
If you are interested in helping, please take this brief survey. A computer works best but if you are using a portable device, please orient it horizontally for best results.

UVM Greenhouses Spring Plant Sale 2020
The UVM Greenhouses staff are planning to hold their Annual Spring Plant Sale as soon as the Vermont State of Emergency is set to end on May 15th.
The selection may be a little limited this year compared to prior years, but they still intend to have lots of on-site grown veggie starts, herbs, and flowers for sale! Their goal is to get these plants into your garden, and they're exploring creative ways to achieve that in the event social distancing guidelines continue into late May.
Please take a moment to fill out this 2-minute survey to help them determine how to best serve your needs.
They'll have a plant list and further updates posted on their Facebook page in the coming weeks. Email greenhouses@uvm.edu with any questions.

While many people are in the process of spring cleaning, this is a quick reminder that old batteries do not belong in your trash bin or your regular recycle bin. Please collect and save them for proper recycling once facilities are back to normal operating hours.

Some great news: Recently, UVM earned its third Gold rating from STARS!
President Garimella tweeted the news, saying he is "proud of our long record and renewed commitment to sustainability.” STARS is the primary metric that campuses across the country use to measure their sustainability performance and UVM continues to be a top performer even as the metric gets more rigorous. The hundreds of questions in the assessment (see full report) are also what informs UVM's designation as the #4 Top Green School.
Thank you to the many of you reading this who helped make this recognition possible and who work hard every day to advance sustainability on campus!
