The UVM Staff Council serves as an advocate for staff by seeking out and responding to their ideas and concerns, representing them to the University administration, and keeping staff informed of University initiatives.

Staff Council monthly meetings take place on the first Tuesday of every month from 12:05-1:30. Upcoming meetings:

The Staff Council office has extended each of the following deadlines to 4:00 PM Tuesday, December 3rd (or until spaces have filled) for the following events:

Shopping Bus Trip (link)
WHAT: A bus trip to the Settlers Green Outlet Village in North Conway, New Hampshire.
WHEN: Saturday December 7th, 2019.
Depart from Given parking lot at 8:00 AM, return at 8:00 PM
WHERE: North Conway, NH
COST: $35 per person for UVM staff, faculty, retirees; $38 for non-UVM affiliates. No discount for children (and only ages 15+ allowed). Price includes bottled water and snacks.

Cooking Class: Holiday Hors d'Oeuvres (link)
There are still spots open for this fun (rescheduled) cooking class! Learn how to make scrumptious holiday hors d'oeuvres including: Baked Brie, Spanikopita, and Stuffed Mushrooms.
When: December 12, 2019, 5:00 - 6:30 pm
Where: Discovery Kitchen (Central Campus Res Hall)
Cost: $25 per person for UVM staff, $30 for guests. Guests must come with a UVM staff member; limit one guest per staff member. Price includes dinner in the dining hall (a value of $11.55 per person).

The Holiday Bazaar is a yearly craft show which focuses on the arts, crafts, and products of our UVM community. This year it will take place on Wednesday, December 4th, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Raffle Prizes! This year's raffle includes fantastic prizes, including single day lift tickets for Bolton Valley and Jay Peak, a season pass for Smuggler's Notch, vouchers for tickets to men's and women's basketball, hockey, lacrosse, and soccer games, items donated by the UVM Bookstore and Campus Recreation, and much more! Many of our Bazaar vendors also donated hand-crafted products like maple syrup, jewelry, winterwear, kitchen items and decorative items to the raffle. You can buy raffle tickets for $1/ticket (or 6 for $5) and bring a non-perishable food item for the food drive and get a free raffle ticket!

Bake Sale Donations
We accept donations of any kind of home-baked goods for sale at the Holiday Bazaar Bake Sale Table. Sign up here (link). Proceeds from this table go to support events and discounts for staff throughout the year. Bake sale donations will be dropped off the morning of the Holiday Bazaar (December 4th, 2019) in the Davis Center's Grand Maple Ballroom. You must include a list of ingredients.

Volunteers Needed
Staff Council welcomes volunteers for the 2019 Staff Council Holiday Bazaar! You may sign up here (link) for multiple time slots/positions if you wish.

Food Drive
Bring canned or dry goods to the Food Drive to the Bazaar on the day of the event and get free raffle tickets! All food will go to the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf.

Choosing funding recipients from a very strong and varied group of applicants was a difficult task, and limited funding meant the Committee was unable to award every applicant. Applicants are encouraged to apply again in future open application periods. The next open period runs from December 1 - January 31st.

Did you know that in the Employee Leaves & Time Off Policy (PDF), support for community and nonprofit volunteer service is emphasized and encouraged? (See page 21-22 of the Policy for details). The Staff Council Community Engagement Committee is putting together some resources around volunteering, and we'd love to hear from you!

According to a survey by the UVM Food Insecurity Working Group (link), nearly one in five UVM students are considered food insecure and UVM staff experienced food insecurity at rates higher than the Vermont average. In response to this, the Staff Council Community Engagement Committee has compiled a list of 10 resources:

5. NOFA-VT Farm Share Program (Subsidized CSA Shares) (link)
6. Intervale Center (link): Offers no-cost, gleaned CSA shares (Fair Share) and discounted, delivered CSA shares for EBT-enrolled college students (Intervale Food Hub).
7. Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (link)
8. Farm to Plate (link) - search by Food Access and Nutrition category to see information on food shelves, child meal sites, nutrition programs and classes, gleaning, etc.
9. Vermont’s Farm to Family program (link)
10. Crop Cash (link) allows people receiving 3Squares (SNAP) benefits to receive additional funds to spend at farmers markets.

The Staff Council Social Committee is pleased to offer double-discounted tickets to staff for two UVM games this winter break:

Men's Basketball: Friday, December 20th at 7pm, vs. Lipscomb - $10 per ticket! (Regular staff discount is $14, Athletics is offering tickets in bulk to Staff Council for $12 and we in turn are subsidizing it at $10!)

Call for Proposals
Professional Development & Training is welcoming proposals focused on thriving in times of change which may include such topics as:
• How have you or your team thrived during times of change?
• Are there practices, models or experiences with change you find helpful and would like to share?
• Other topics could include managing change with resilience; self-care and change; making lifestyle changes; authenticity at work; appreciative inquiry; and the like.

Join LGBTQ+ staff, faculty, students, and alumni as we gather for our annual Home for the Holidays celebration at Prism Center. Drop by Allen House (461 Main St.) after work on Friday December 6th from 4-7pm for a fun, queer-affirming celebration with board games, crafting, and card-making, as well as some homemade food and seasonal treats from the community! Unwind with campus colleagues and connect with LGBTQ+ students as we lean into the end of the semester and they prepare to leave for winter break.

Join the UVM Department of Theatre and Dance for the event of the holiday season as they present Jesus Christ Superstar, the iconic rock opera that reinvented musical theatre. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s award-winning musical tells the story of the final week of Jesus’ life from the perspective of Judas Iscariot. Filled with an exciting mix of rock, gospel, folk and funk - this contemporary imagining of the biblical tale has been electrifying audiences for over 40 years.
