LCSG participated in the Fisheries Leadership Institute, a regional effort to equip sport fishing industry businesses, tourism interests, elected officials, and others with a better understanding of aquatic biology, fisheries habitat, fisheries management, aquatic nuisance species, and other issues as they effect Lake Champlain's sport fishery.  On March 5 and 6, 2004, classroom training was provided to a small group of successful applicants from the Champlain Valley (NY and VT), at the Valcour Conference Center.  Emerging leaders included fishing guides, professional tournament anglers, tourism/fishing web page editors, and others.  The group also included representatives from The Nature Conservancy, Lake Champlain Trout Unlimited,  ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center, the Lake George Association, Ausable River Association, and the Lake Champlain Walleye Association.  Part II of the training consisted of field sampling and laboratory exercises on June 18, to enable "hands on" skills associated with phytoplankton and zooplankton identification, fish identification, and physical limnology.
